Youth Empowerment
Youth empowerment is a process where young people are the main force to bring out social change. Involving them in development initiatives by addressing their different concerns would create a wider opportunity to positively take action for social change. It is significantly important to improve their access to resources and transform their consciousness through their beliefs, values, and attitudes. TAHZINGDONG seeks ways to enable the youth of the community to understand and defend their rights. The organization involves the youth in its interventions to equip them with knowledge, information, skills, and competencies as well as to explore their inner creativity and develop self-esteem and life skills.
TAHZINGDONG has also been working to develop the soft and hard skills of young boys and young girls so that they can play a vital role in combating social irregularities, like drag addiction, and early marriage and be pro-active to solve social problems, disseminating awareness messages on environment conservation and climate resilience issues, etc.
For around last 2 decades, TAHZINGDONG has taken the following interventions for youth empowerment:
- Improve Employability Capacity and career opportunities among marginalized at-risk youth;
- Capacity Building of youth tourist guide on communication, behavior, cultural sensitization, safety and security & leadership;
- Capacity building for youth sales girls on communication, behavior, and sales promotion;
- Organization development training to 300 grass root based Youth Lead Organizations (YLO) based on assessment findings [on planning, fundraising, project management, grant management, financial management and compliance, advocacy, gender and social inclusion, MEAL, leadership, mentoring, and relationship building] using a participatory method;
- Support youth-focused agencies (DYD, DSS, Planning Commission) and youth spaces (Parliamentary Caucus, NYC) to set up processes for inclusive youth contribution to policy review, youth budget tracking, project monitoring and perform advocacy with relevant government offices and formal and semi-formal policy spaces to ensure meaningful participation of youth;
- Inclusion of YLO members in different sub-committees in city corporations and municipalities and support to establish yearly plan of action - inclusion partners;
